Muskets from Waterloo

Truly the Waterloo collectors Holy Grail is to own a musket used on the Battlefield on that fateful sunday. We are lucky enough to own 3.

Of the many thousands of Broken and discarded muskets lying on the field after the battle, some were picked up by the locals and used for Hunting . Many of these were shortened by sawing off part of the barrel. Many ended up in this condition and were presented to the Cotton Museum over the years.

Description

French Charleville Musket full length barrel dated 1815, found in 2004 in Waterloo village with two others leaning against a chimney breast in the loft of a cottage being renovated.

Completely restored in 2005.

French Charleville Musket shortened Barrel

Description

French Charleville Musket barrel shortened dated 1813, common practice amongst local people was to shorten the barrel of any military musket found after a battle and use them for hunting.

Found in 2004 in Waterloo village with two others leaning against a chimney breast in the loft of a cottage being renovated.Completely restored in 2005.
